Knock Knock 5-1-2023

This week we had zone conference, got to see a lot of familiar faces. My companion and I hosted because it was our building. Our mission president and his wife gave us a revelatory experience as they spoke on faith and how to incorporate it into the work. We had pizza (and them we ate pizza for 4 days after that ) I'm literally lactose intolerant, send help.

Howdy folks! How have you found joy in your life this week? For me I found joy in the small moments. I have been serving in Post Falls Idaho for the last 6 months of my life. Time has snuck by me, it's already the month of May, I cannot believe that. I have been serving in 2 wards, White Pines (WP) and Prairie Falls (PF.) The WP Ward is 80% young families all with young kids and I love the family vibe, some of my closest friend relationships come from this ward. The PF Ward is more so older families. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in this area (I say this with my fingers crossed that I get transferred next week) I am so looking forward to leaving this area. For reference my ward boundaries include a space of suburban neighborhoods in about a 12 mile square radius. (Side note: its the smallest area in the entire mission) It's hard to explain how bad I want to escape and see some mountains and forests. There are so many great ward members and friends that we have taught off and on and this place will always hold a special place in my heart. Pray for these friends of mine (Jeff and Mason) they'll receive the restored gospel when their time is ready. Jeff is a friend who we have taught for the last few months, he recognizes that baptism is a step he needs to take he's just not ready yet. He's a super sweet guy who loves to joke around and I dearly love him. Mason is a youth in our ward who is in jail as you read this. We were teaching him and he expressed a deep desire to be baptized to help straighten his life out because he's involved in gang "warfare" and other shady activities. #freemyboymason. Being a missionary is the most difficult thing I've done and on the days I feel selfish and want to take care of my needs I often try and put our friends first. This is not my time, this is the Lord's time. Pray for me as I find strength each and every day, every morning I wake up, it's still not real to me that I am a set apart disciple of Jesus Christ. He chose me for this work, it is humbling to be a part of the greatest work on Earth at this time.

Service this week was fun. We moved 5 yards of dirt into the Stucki family garden boxes. They have some funny youth, yesterday in church one of their kids (Deacon) was in the pew aisle mimicking my every move. I did a motion of slapping my backside and so did he and his mother snatched him and put him in timeout.

We also did service (rummaged through storage to find camping equipment) for our recent convert Mary Taylor and later ate dinner with her too. We watched Wild Kratts and ate pizza.

We became a therapist for Jon Harris (returning member who's hobby is to clown me) because he's going through a hard time at work. Bishop recommended his landscape services to an old couple in the ward (Peckhams) who have shortsided him on money, kinda scandalous. Now we're gonna go over there and help with the project, praying we don't get involved in some drama.

Yesterday our zone leaders invited us to a baptism and we hurried and drove over to Rathdrum and barely made it in time. It was a 10 year old little girl who was getting baptized by her brother, he started the service off by giving a talk. "Here in a minute you will receive 2 gifts, the gift of discernsion and the gift of baptism. No matter what the missionaries say, baptism will not make your life easier, in fact it will make your life harder because Satan doesn't want you to choose the right!" He yelled while aggressively pointing at his little sister. Glancing around the room all I saw were missionaries trying hard not to laugh. When the actual baptism happened he had to dunk her 3 times because he said the prayer wrong and he was forcefully shoving her into the water so quick that she kept kicking up. To kick it all off, there was a bird loose in the chapel.

My companion and I had the honor and privilege of absolutely wrecking the youth of our ward at dodgeball, the week prior we taught them all how to do missionary work online.

God bless
